Veydan Terms of Use
1. General Terms
Rookbeam Technologies LLC (United States; the “Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides the Veydan Chat, Veydan Space, Veydan Notes, and Veydan Pass apps and the online services it operates. Veydan Project is the name of the project. “You” means any individual or legal entity using Veydan products or services. Anyone acting on behalf of an organization must have the necessary authority.
These Terms govern your relationship with us. By installing an app, accepting these Terms through the designated interface, or using a service, you agree to these Terms to the extent applicable law permits an agreement to be formed in that manner. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must stop using Veydan products. Rights to the software code granted under a separate license are governed by that license.
Minors may use the products subject to applicable legal requirements, age restrictions for specific features, and the rules of the distribution platform. If the consent or involvement of a parent or legal guardian is required, you must ensure that requirement is met.
2. Identity, Keys, and Infrastructure Choices
Identity in Veydan Chat is based on a cryptographic key. npub is a public identifier; control over the identity is verified using the corresponding private key or a signing method supported by the product. Creating this identity does not require a real name, phone number, or email address. A public key alone does not verify a person's identity.
You retain control over your cryptographic identity. A Veydan Cloud account is a record used to provide services through our infrastructure and does not replace that identity. Ending Cloud service does not destroy the key and does not, by itself, prevent you from using it in compatible apps and on independent servers that permit such use.
The apps support connections to compatible components you choose, including your own or independent relays, media servers, storage, and notification services, within the capabilities of the relevant version. Using our servers is your choice. Software deployed on your own infrastructure must be used in accordance with its license.
You are responsible for protecting your devices, private keys, recovery methods, and backups. We do not store your chat identity's private key in a form we can read and cannot recover it for you. Losing the private key and all other supported means of access may permanently prevent you from controlling your identity and accessing encrypted data.
3. User Content and Encryption
You and any other lawful rights holders retain your rights to content you create, post, or transmit. You must have the rights necessary to use that content in the manner you choose.
When you use our servers, you authorize us to perform the technical operations on the data you provide that are necessary for the features you select: receipt, transmission, technical copying, temporary storage, synchronization, and deletion. For content protected by end-to-end encryption, these operations are performed on encrypted data without us decrypting its contents. This permission is limited to providing the services you select and taking related actions required by law; it does not transfer ownership of your content to us or grant us a separate right to use that content.
We do not have users' private keys or the keys needed to independently decrypt content protected by end-to-end encryption. Access to a server or an encrypted file does not enable us to read that content. Decryption takes place on the devices of users who hold the appropriate keys, including message recipients and authorized group members.
Content you choose to share with us in an inquiry or report may be reviewed in readable form. Sharing that separate copy does not give us access to your other messages or your private key. We may use that content to review the inquiry or report, take protective measures, reconsider a decision, and meet related legal obligations in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
You may save and transfer data available to you using the relevant product's features. Decrypting exported encrypted files requires the appropriate keys. We cannot replace a missing key or decrypt files at your request.
4. Rules of Use and Applicable Requirements
You must comply with the laws that apply to your actions and use of Veydan, including the laws of the country in which you use the product. We also comply with mandatory requirements that apply to our own operations. An action being lawful in one country does not override other applicable mandatory requirements.
Veydan respects your freedom to engage in lawful communication. Beliefs or opinions alone are not grounds for restricting access. Restrictions may apply to violations of the law or these Terms, threats to user or infrastructure security, or violations of mandatory app distribution platform rules.
The following are prohibited:
- sexual exploitation of minors, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and facilitating these violations;
- threats, stalking, harassment, sexual extortion, and sharing someone else's personal or intimate content without a lawful basis;
- fraud, impersonation for unlawful purposes, spam, and abuse of reporting tools;
- malware, unauthorized access, attacks on infrastructure, and circumventing restrictions to abuse services;
- infringement of copyright or other lawful rights of third parties;
- other conduct or content prohibited by applicable law or mandatory distribution platform rules.
You are responsible for your actions and the content you post or transmit through Veydan. Users' opinions and statements are not our opinions or statements. These provisions do not relieve us of our own legal obligations.
5. Groups, Communities, and Sensitive Content
Group and community owners and administrators independently manage their spaces, set rules, and use the moderation measures available to them. Additional rules must be consistent with these Terms and applicable law. The authority of owners, administrators, and moderators depends on the product's features and the permissions they have been granted.
Owners and administrators must apply and maintain an NSFW label if a group or community is intended for sensitive content or the nature of the content shared requires such a label. This may include sexual content, graphic depictions of violence, and other content for which a corresponding warning is provided. The label must be updated when the nature of the content changes. The product's labeling features for individual items of content must also be used.
Based on information and reports available to us, we may apply or adjust labels and limit the discoverability and display of these spaces and content in the search tools, directories, and services we operate. This does not mean we read encrypted communications.
An NSFW label does not permit prohibited content, verify participants' ages, or replace mandatory access restrictions. Owners' and administrators' obligations do not remove our own obligations under the law and app distribution rules.
6. Reports, Reviews, and Restrictions
The primary way to report a violation is the in-app Report feature. Reports may also be sent to abuse@veydan.net, and child safety reports to childsafety@veydan.net.
A report, email, or screenshot does not, by itself, establish a violation or who was responsible for the conduct in question. We assess the materials provided, their origin and context, and other information we actually have. We may request clarification if needed. End-to-end encryption prevents us from independently reading protected communications to verify a report.
We may issue a warning, restrict access to services we operate, delete objects we can access on our servers, or take other lawful and technically available measures. If there is a security threat, we may take proportionate interim measures before completing a review. These actions do not enable us to destroy a cryptographic identity or control independent servers.
Reports of possible child exploitation and immediate threats to life receive priority. Reviews are based on the information provided and other lawfully available information. When required by law, we report information to the appropriate organizations and preserve relevant materials; completing an internal review is not a prerequisite to fulfilling an urgent legal obligation.
We do not publish materials from individual reviews, information about reporting parties, or our internal protection methods unless disclosure is required by law. This does not affect mandatory notices, lawful cooperation with the appropriate authorities, or applicable appeal rights.
You may appeal a decision by emailing abuse@veydan.net. For details, see Reports and Appeals.
7. Veydan Cloud, Media, and Free Relays
Veydan Cloud synchronizes data across devices using temporary storage of encrypted files. It is not intended for indefinite archival storage and does not replace backups. Media storage and related features are provided within the scope, quotas, and terms of your chosen plan.
When you create a chat identity using Veydan servers, a free Cloud account is created for that identity. This account is not automatically deleted solely because of inactivity. This rule applies to the account and does not mean that every message or file is stored indefinitely.
We provide certain relays to support community interaction over the Nostr protocol. Unless expressly agreed otherwise for a particular service, these relays are provided at no separate charge, as available, and without a service-level agreement. Paying for Cloud does not, by itself, purchase exclusive access to a relay or a guarantee that it will operate indefinitely.
We may change the limits, configuration, and availability of free infrastructure, perform maintenance, and discontinue it, subject to applicable notice requirements. This does not remove our obligations for a paid service, including when that infrastructure is used to provide it.
You are responsible for retaining originals, keys, and backups of important data. Temporary storage periods and the consequences of reaching a quota or the end of a plan term are governed by the terms of the relevant service and plan. We do not guarantee that temporary objects can be recovered after deletion.
8. Paid Plans and Activation
Paid Cloud plans are purchased on Veydan's official website. A plan is activated after payment is confirmed or a valid activation code is redeemed, if we offer that method. The code's terms of use, validity period, and available activation method are provided when the code is issued.
Available purchase and activation methods depend on the platform, distribution channel, and specific offer. These Terms do not mean that every version of an app supports code entry. Once activated, paid status applies to the linked Cloud account and is recognized by apps that support it.
The price, currency, taxes, included features, quotas, plan term, and renewal, cancellation, and refund terms are disclosed before payment. Changes will not apply retroactively to a period already paid for in violation of the agreement or your mandatory rights. For details, see Cloud Plans.
9. Independent Servers and Third-Party Services
Independent servers and storage you choose are not operated by us. Their owners, operators, and administrators independently manage operations, set rules, control access, and comply with the legal requirements that apply to their activities within the scope of their actual roles.
A server's compatibility with Veydan or Nostr, your connection to it, or its use of Veydan code does not, by itself, mean that its operator is our representative, partner, contractor, or authorized agent. We have no administrative access to servers operated independently of us and cannot control the data stored there, change their settings, or force them to shut down.
We do not determine what data an independent operator stores, whom it grants access to, or how it handles requests. Questions about its actions, data deletion, or legal compliance should be directed to that operator. We do not guarantee its reliability, lawful operation, security, or compatibility.
Syncing Notes, Pass, and Space through a supported folder, S3, or WebDAV you choose uses that storage option and does not, by itself, constitute a Veydan Cloud service. Similarly, external websites, proxies, SSH servers, bots, and other integrations you choose are subject to their own rules.
Providers we engage to deliver our own services are addressed separately in the Privacy Policy. The independence of user-selected servers does not remove our responsibility for our own activities or for the providers we engage to the extent provided by law.
Deleting an object or restricting access within our infrastructure does not delete copies on independent servers or recipients' devices.
10. Software Rights
The source code for Veydan apps is published in the official GitHub repositories. Availability of the code does not mean that it may be used, modified, distributed, or used to provide services to others without restrictions.
The license for the relevant repository, version, or component determines the permissions granted, including the PolyForm Perimeter License 1.0.1 where it applies. Hosting a server yourself does not remove license restrictions. Third-party component licenses and their owners' rights remain in effect.
These Terms do not replace the source code license or grant broader rights to the code. If these Terms conflict with a separate applicable license regarding the use, modification, or distribution of code, that license governs. These Terms do not limit rights independently granted by that license. Rules for using services we operate apply independently of permissions to use the code. A public repository also does not grant a separate right to use Veydan names, logos, or other branding, except as permitted by law or separately authorized.
11. Availability and Liability
Veydan is designed to work on your devices and with your compatible infrastructure. We do not act as the administrator of your devices or independent servers. Providing free network resources supports interaction among users and does not create an obligation to provide universal infrastructure for the entire Nostr network.
To the extent permitted by law, the software and free network services are provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, freedom from all errors, compatibility with all devices and third-party servers, or indefinite retention of temporarily stored data. Warranties and obligations for a paid service are governed by its terms and applicable law.
We are not responsible for the consequences of independent operators' actions, your loss of keys, compromised devices, or missing backups to the extent those consequences were not caused by our own breach of obligations.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages or lost profits. These limitations do not exclude liability that cannot be limited by contract, remove obligations for paid services, or limit mandatory consumer rights.
12. Changes, Discontinuing Use, and Disputes
We may change these Terms and service features. The current version is published on the official website with a date. If the law requires a separate notice, a period before changes take effect, or renewed consent, we will meet that requirement. Changes will not override accrued rights where doing so would violate the law.
If you disagree with changes, you must stop using Veydan products, subject to the separate license rights described in Section 10. Before you stop using the products, you should save the data and keys you need. You may delete your Cloud account as described in Cloud Account Deletion.
We may restrict or terminate service for violations of these Terms or legal requirements, or when there is a security threat. Measures are limited to our services and the authority we actually have. The consequences for a paid period are governed by the agreement and mandatory legal requirements.
You may contact hello@veydan.net about disputes. This does not establish a mandatory out-of-court dispute process or limit your right to bring a matter before a court or authority with jurisdiction. Applicable law and jurisdiction are determined in accordance with relevant mandatory legal rules and consumer rights.
